Short Film vs. Feature Length Film

Image
The main contrast in this film was that the other characters were included. In the short film, only 9 and 5 were pictured. The other characters were presumed to have died. In the feature film, all characters 1-9 were portrayed. Allowing the story to be deeper and more conclusive. The feature film also included dialogue between the characters, which contrasts from the short film. To me, however, the short film's silence almost added a more interesting aspect to the story line. You can percieve 9's struggle being isolated which gives more intense feelings.       The similarities in the film were the setting, colors, and film style. The colors were all dull, and warm. There were also many harsh soulds in both films. Such as creaking and cracking. The characters in both films looked very similar, almost identical. The monsters both played the same role aswell, attempting to kill all of the rag dolls.     The films both encapsulated themes of isolation, overcoming, and perserv

Research 9, the feature film

The film, though seeming more innocent due to the animation, actually is very dark. The setting is dark and barren, and the characters in the film are spooky and dark. There are many deaths in the film which relate to the themes of death and isolation. There are few moments of happiness and laughter. The film consists of no humans. Instead, it seems to be a post apocalyptic world with the character being "rag dolls". The monsters are also similar, but there is more of a machine like aspect to them.  The rag dolls have no names, but are instead labeled 1-9 on their backs. The main character is 9.      The plot starts with 9 waking up in a room with no recollection for where he came from. He ventures out into the city, meeting the number 2. Quickly though, their meeting is cut short by a monster coming and taking 2 away. 9 passes out, only to wake up in a shelter where other dolls have taken to hiding. The crew makes a mission to try to go save number 2, while trying to a

Research 9, The Short

At the beginning of the short film, one of the characters, with a 9 on its back, is shown sullenly looking at a circular object. This then goes into a flashback, presumably with something to do with the object. Another character with a 5 on its back is then shown with 9, disassembling a lamp. A monster then comes and uses a device to kill 5. 9 watches from afar in terror. A device 9 has in his hand, similar to the one used to kill 5, pulsates in his hand. It seems to trigger some sort of response in him to search for something. The monster approaches in search of 9, with the number of the killed "dolls" now sewn into his back. The monster notices a moving "doll", then is then revealed to be a puppet used to distract the monster. 9 jumps on top of the monster to kill it. 9 breaks away and runs until he encounters a plank hovering above a large drop. He maneuvers his way to allow the monster to fall to his death. The scene cuts to 9 putting together his, and the

Genre Choice for Film

Image
The choice of genre for our film will be... Thriller! After a discussion with my partner, we decided that the thriller genre would be the best for the film that we want to portray. The thriller genre will be perfect to fit out ideas. The film will need to be high paced at points of climax, which we want to achieve through suspense. The other genres did not fully encapsulate what the film we visualized.      Some of my favorite movies are thrillers, so I think that is what also pushed me to this genre. They never fail to keep me hooked. It would be an amazing feeling to be able to capture these elements within my own short film. I am interested to see what the process will be for this film. There is definitely way more planning ahead for my team. I know we will be precise when we tackle it.     Our pitch does not really need to change so far. The pitch was already based on the thriller genre, so it will be easy to make a transition into our next phase of filmmaking. My partner and

Genre Research - (Thriller, Horror, and Drama)

Image
The following will be research on some important questions about the thriller genre: a) Some common camera, shots, and angles within the thriller genre are the following: high angle, close up, low angles, canted angles, handheld shots, over the shoulder shots, and zooms. All of these shots can be manipulated to create suspense and mystery for the audience. All of these shots tamper with how the audience will perceive the film. b) Sounds within the genre are used to build the tension of events for the audience. Some of these sounds would be music that goes from a slow tempo to a high tempo while the climax builds. As well as dark and eerie low noises. c) In the thriller genre, costumes would be average, plain clothes. Most likely on the darker side. The lighting would be dark, with flashes of light to keep the audience engaged. There would be high amounts of action going on so that the climax can be suspenseful. Makeup and hair would also be plain. The setting out most likely be in a ci

Genres I Would Like to Research

Image
With my pitch being a movie that leans to the more mysterious, spooky, and dark side of film making, it seems appropriate that the genres to consider for it would be thriller, horror, or genre. It all depends on what part of the plot fill be focused on and how we want the story to come across, since all these genres, though similar, all have different ways of being produced. All of these points contributing to the final film's end result will be needed to be considered by me and my partner in order to decide which genre holds our vision.     For a thriller movie, the kidnapping aspect of the film would be highlighted. This is due to the fact that thriller movies tend to lean towards a more action, motion-based film. I would consider this genre if that was the vision we were leaning too. To film this, in order for the suspense-based aspects of the thriller genre to shine through, the plot would need to build more slowly, allowing questions to build in the audience's mind.
