Thanksgiving Break Blog

     This Thanksgiving break I took time for myself to reflect on what I want my aspirations for this class to be. Sometimes, after weeks and weeks of doing schoolwork every day, it's nice to finally have a break to take a step back away from the stress. I love having breaks from school, it's so easy to get caught up in everything. I feel like this week will allow some creativity to flow for the movie project. I can't wait to get started on the aspects of the short film. My partner and I created websites and social media for our project. Including, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. It's going to be so much fun to start making content for these pages, and perhaps get some fans too! I'm assuming that we will take certain clips from the film and create some teasers of the short film. When we actually start filming, I'm so intrigued to see how it plays out. Of course there is always an idea of what the film will look like, but we arent professionals by any means. I have never acted in my life, besides a few church plays and the AS media project. When it comes to filming and editing, I don't know much about being a director or producer. that's what makes these projects so fun though. You get to have a taste of that job, and you always have to start somewhere. My parter for the project, Alex, loves to act. She has participated in many plays, and she definitely will fell more comfortable than I would memorizing lines and such. Overall, it will definitely be a fun process. I feel like we have all the resources we need to do amazing. Im so grateful I had this break to relax, and spark some creativity!

Re-Filming

 While looking over our film, we noticed some stuttering in the dialogue between the characters. So, we went ahead and refilmed the opening scene and Elle's argument between her and her mom. Since these are the more dialogue-based scenes, we had some difficulty nailing lines. First, we went back and rehearsed. Simply just sitting and repeating lines to each other. We found it is so hard to not giggle! After a few tries of that, and when we thought we had mastered the lines themselves, we went to go practice on the scene.  We started with the scene at home. We practice the lines again with my mom, who was acting as Elle's mom in the scene. After a few shots, it seemed as if we got the perfect shot. We noticed we were able to get the scene to flow more and get some more drama out of it. Then we went to film the opening scene. Alex and I practiced for a little while before. Because of our practice, we actually were able to finish the refilling of the opening scene quite quickly. ...

  Critical Reflection Questions How do your products represent social groups or issues? Our film, “Deception” lays into the ideas of complicity in our society. We all seem to just go along with everything around us without challenging anything. In our film, Alex and I wanted to make the audience step back, and think about how they are living their lives. Are they just playing into the illusion of control like our main character, Elle, or are they breaking boundaries and trying to go the extra step to living a unique life. At the end of our film, it is shown that Elle’s whole life was just a simulation being run by scientists, which is how Alex and I feel people are going about their lives now. How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’?
